HOW TO WIN A YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AWARD

HOW TO WIN A YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AWARD

BEGINNING Boutique's Sarah Timmerman kicked off a killer award winning streak following her takeout of the Retail & Services category at Brisbane Young Entrepreneur Awards last year. Now, she shares her insights to get you into the spotlight...

"The Brisbane Young Entrepreneur Awards work so well because you don't only get the recognition of being nominated for an award of winning an award, but you also receive media exposure that is published for the world to see.

You can't put a price on this and it's key for someone who is trying to build a platform and grow a business.

Winning the award was an amazing feeling, after a really hard month for me personally it honestly was such an unexpected win. I really loved having my team there to support me as well.

I have three tips for people curious about entering the Brisbane Young Entrepreneur Awards.

1. Be honest with yourself

As much as entering awards is about showing off your best aspects, it is also about presenting your worst ones. Showing what has gone wrong in your business, how you overcame this, and what you have learned from this is just as important as listing all your great accomplishments. A great way to ensure your entry is impartial is to do it with a team member.

2. Know why you are the best at what you do

When you start the application process of entering a business award you will need to know what sets you apart from other businesses and your competitors. There will be something you are doing really well and you need to play this up and make it the main point of conversation around your business.

3. Network

There is no better place to network with likeminded business owners or entrepreneurs than during a business award experience. It's all about making friends and getting to know new people!"
