FIRM CALLING 'DIBBS' ON MELBOURNE

DIBBSBARKER is gearing up for expansion, following its announcement to unveil a new office in Melbourne by the end of the year.

The office, located on Collins Street, will be headed by Property & Projects senior partner Bill Burrough and supported by a small local team and fly-in resources.

Burrough will permanently relocate from the firm's Sydney division, after serving as a partner for the past 29 years as well as contributing as a member of the board.

Managing partner Stephen Purcell (pictured) says the establishment of a Melbourne presence is a vital step in consolidating of the firm's east coast offering.

He says the expansion makes "good business sense" due to existing client demand and new opportunities presented by the Victorian market.

"The Melbourne market presents strong opportunities for us to grow our property practice and Bill is the perfect person to lead our offering," he says.

"Many of our clients are already headquartered or very active in Melbourne and they've been asking us to be there too.

"We've listened, and we are looking forward to launching our on-the-ground presence there very soon."

While the office will initially limit its focus to the property sector, Purcell notes service growth across other key areas is on the cards.

"We see great prospects for expansion across other sectors on which the firm is strategically focused, such as financial services, insurance, life sciences and healthcare, as well as practice areas such as intellectual property and technology," he says.

"In the coming months we will actively pursue opportunities in these areas."
