Burleigh Brewing Company is drunk on the success of its new ale My Wife’s Bitter after the first run sold out in a few weeks.

According to owners Brennan and Peta Fielding, the beer is filtrated through local lava rock and is the coastal interpretation of a classic English bitter, with roasted maltiness, a soft caramel character and dense, aromatic foam.

Peta says she is not bitter that her brew master husband put her name to the brew — in fact it’s become a family tradition.

“At our first brewery, we named two of our first beers after our children, Daisy and Skagen. So, in keeping with tradition I was next, and I am pleased, although slightly dubious that I’ve provided the inspiration needed to develop this delicious, classic bitter,” she says.

The beer is packaged in screen-printed, long-neck bottles, featuring a scantily clad lass holding an English flag – a nod to the beer’s English origin with a unique coastal twist.

Ingredients are listed as; ‘authentic English hops (Fuggles and East Kent Goldings), a blend of classic English specialist malts (Crystal and chocolate), a centuries-old English yeast and beautiful Gold Coast water’.

Burleigh Brewing’s product suite also includes Bighead — Australia’s first no-carb beer — the Duke Range which is distributed throughout South East Queensland and northern New South Wales and The Hef — Burleigh Hefeweizen, an unfiltered wheat beer with national presence.
