DREAMWORLD AND DREAMWORKS FORM ALLIANCE

ARDENT Leisure-owned theme park Dreamworld has entered into a strategic alliance with NASDAQ-listed entertainment company DreamWorks Animation.

The agreement involves creating new year-round attractions featuring characters from animated DreamWorks films including Shrek, Puss in Boots, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar and more.

Dreamworld CEO Todd Coates describes the deal as a major coup for the amusement park.

“The DreamWorks Animation brand is a household name, and we have no doubt that featuring the characters and worlds from their movies will be a great draw for our park,” says Coates.

“We are really excited to have formed a long-term strategic alliance with one of the most visionary entertainment companies in the world.”

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg believes the agreement offers countless possibilities.

“The alliance between Dreamworld and DreamWorks represents yet another opportunity for families across the globe to interact with our characters in new and exciting ways,” says Katzenberg.

“Dreamworld has done a fantastic job of creating quality entertainment experiences for their customers and we look forward to joining forces with the largest theme park in Australia – a hugely important market for us.”

The partnership will be sealed in three phases, commencing with the DreamWorks Holiday Shrektacular Show this summer. The stage spectacular will feature eight DreamWorks Animation characters performing popular holiday-themed songs.

Phase two will open for the 2012 Easter holiday period with a new 8400sqm DreamWorks Experience precinct, while the third phase will include a Kung Fu garden where families can meet Po panda and enjoy food or refreshments.

Dreamworld is also preparing to celebrate its 30th birthday with exotic animal enclosure The Lair, ShockWave and Big 7 thrill-ride BuzzSaw, among others.
