Domino's partners with Google on Assistant support

Voice-activated tech is quickly taking over our bedrooms, living spaces, and our smart phones, so it's no wonder that fast-food companies are getting in on the action.
Domino's (ASX: DMP) has announced that it has partnered with Google to allow customers to place and track orders via the Google Assistant.
Customers with a Google Assistant powered product (Google Home, Pixel phone, etc.) can order their favourite order or their last order via voice activation.
For example, all you need to say is "Hey Google, ask Domino's for my last saved order". It's that simple.
The partnership follows a similar deal made last year with Amazon that allowed Domino's customers to order their favourite pizzas via Amazon Alexa. At the time of the Amazon deal, Domino's was the only quick service restaurant in Australia to use voice technology for online ordering.
Domino's group chief digital and technology officer Michael Gillespie says the company is constantly looking for ways to improve its online ordering systems, which amount for most of the company's orders.
"Our online orders regularly exceed 70 per cent of network sales, with more than two million pizzas and sides ordered online ever week so it's important that we continue to innovate in this space," says Gillespie.
"We pride ourselves on introducing new technology that will not only make our customers' lives easier, but make the entire experience more enjoyable."
"We are always working to better understand our customers and how they want to order from us. This seemed like a fantastic opportunity to provide yet another ordering platform."
If you have a Google Assistant powered product all you need to do is set up a Domino's account, place an order, specify your preferred payment so that you can order it via your Google Assistant the next time.
The pizza company is certainly one of the most tech-forward quick service food chains in Australia.
Earlier this year the group explored its augmented reality (AR) offering with Business News Australia which has been positively received by customers.
Harnessing Apple's and Google's AR products as well as 3D rendering tool Unity, the Australia-based global group has brought its pizza bases, sauces and toppings to life on smartphones, kind of like a Pokémon GO for food with "a billion plus combinations".
At the end of 1H19 the company announced that it now receives two pizza orders online every second on average.
This bewildering figure has resulted in the company seeing online sales during 1H19 rise by 16.5 per cent or $132.2 million.
Shares in Domino's are up 1.70 per cent to $43.77 per share at 10.35am AEDT.
