CONSTRUCTION STARTS ON NEW CONFERENCE FACILITY

CONSTRUCTION has commenced on what’s set to be one of Brisbane’s largest and most innovative hotel-based conference facilities.

The Hotel Grand Chancellor Brisbane has teamed up with construction company Rohrig, to build the Cottee Parker designed function centre.

The facility will feature 11 function rooms over two levels and make use of the area’s natural lighting.

Queensland area general manager Peter Yared says the development will offer a new and unique hotel-based conference option in the city.

“No other hotel will be able to offer such a venue with the flexibility that we will have,” Yared says.

“It will have the capacity to have a 500 person sit down gala dinner in the ballroom, while easily possessing the ability to hold another 350 person dinner in the ground floor conference rooms.”

Hotel Grand Chancellor Brisbane will have a make-over to complement the new facility, including the expansion of the lobby and the addition of 36 rooms.

The 4.5-star hotel provides 194 guest rooms and is located opposite the Roma Street Parklands.

Yared says the investment into the hotel’s design and facilities will make it a top choice for consumers.

“We will be looking to offer a 5-star function facility at 4-star prices, which will obviously be a big drawcard for the centre,” he says.

“Clients want to host large scale events but not have to pay exorbitant prices, this is where we see our key market.”

Hotel Grand Chancellor Brisbane’s new conference facility is expected to open in April 2015.
