SILICON Valley is calling young Queensland entrepreneurs for a 'once in a lifetime' mission.

The annual Startup Catalyst competition has rolled around, where 20 tech savvy Queensland entrepreneurs between 18 and 25 years old will be given the opportunity for a sponsored trip to Silicon Valley.

Sponsored by River City Labs, the mission will take place from 28 September to 7 October 2015.

Applications have just opened for the mission which will again be fronted by River City Labs founder Steve Baxter.

Participants will visit the offices of global tech companies such as Google, Facebook, Twitter and Apple; attend networking events with startup founders and student entrepreneurs; meet with fellow Australians who are running startups in the Valley; and take part in educational events to equip them with an understanding of what is involved in launching a globally successful tech startup.

Alex Ghiculescu, director at Tanda and 2014 Startup Catalyst alumni (second from left), says his business benefitted from meeting a spectrum of people on the mission.

"We took away sound, expert advice and hugely benefited from mixing with both sides of the tech spectrum from those experts at Google and Facebook to fellow entrepreneurs sitting in the same boat as us at the startup related events in Silicon Valley," says Ghiculescu.

The program will accept applications from young people who meet a simple set of criteria.

Those selected will be provided with return airfares from Brisbane, travel, accommodation, group meals and participation in all relevant events.

Any interested candidates from Universities, TAFEs, incubators and co-working spaces, or with their own startup ideas are invited to apply at www.startupcatalyst.com.au.
