ASHURST HELPING ORANGE SKY LAUNDRY FLY

MORE than 50 Brisbane Ashurst staff donned Orange Sky Laundry shirts recently to celebrate the long-standing partnership between the firm and upstart not-for-profit that is cleaning up around the nation.

Orange Sky Laundry helps the homeless by providing free mobile laundry services. But it is more than just a laundry service, it is a community.

There are now 700 volunteers associated with Orange Sky, which has 11 vans and $1 million worth of infrastructure.

It just over two years since the project was founded in Brisbane by Lucas Patchett and Nick Marchesi, both aged 22, and Ashurst has been providing legal assistance behind the scenes for all that time.

The connection came through long-time Patchett family friend Ashurst Partner Ian Humphreys.

"It was very evident to me that what Nick and Lucas were setting out to do with Orange Sky was a wonderful initiative by two young Brisbane men who were looking to make a significant difference," says Mr Humphreys.

Ashurst aids homeless services around the country, and Humphreys says, "Orange Sky was absolutely consistent with our pro bono schemes and their aims and objectives to help those in the community who are very much in need."

In total, 36 fee earners, including 11 partners do work with Orange Sky across all Ashurst offices. The firm has completed around $250,000 worth of pro bono work across practice areas including: corporate, tax, employment, IT, and international trademark work.

"As a firm, we are very proud of what the boys are doing; we have been on the journey with them from the beginning and are proud to have played a role in their success," says Humphreys.

"What is wonderful is the energy and enthusiasm that they generate, which is shared by our fantastic lawyers and support staff.

"Our wonderful lawyers and partners are enthused, engaged and motivated by the wonderful work they do and are delighted to assist them."
