ANSELL LAUNCHES ANTI-HIV CONDOM INTO CANADA

ANSELL (ASX: ANN) has teamed up with Melbourne pharmaceutical company Starpharma (ASX: SPL) to launch their anti-viral condom in the Canadian market.

The VitaGel condom, produced by Starpharma and launched under Ansell's LifeStyles brand, has been released already in Australia and will now be introduced into the Canadian market.

The LifeStyles Dual Protect condom is a world-first product based on Starpharma's innovative technology.

The condom is the only one of its type, providing protection and incorporating Starpharma's proprietary antiviral compound which has been proven to inactivate HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), HSV (herpes simplex virus), and HPV (human papillomavirus).

These condoms carry the VitaGel brand and Starpharma will receive royalties based on sales.

Starpharma CEO Dr Jackie Fairley says the company was excited to break into North America.

"We are delighted to see LifeStyles Dual Protect with Vita Gel launched in the North American market, a major commercial milestone for the product," says Fairley.

Ansell's President and General Manager of the Sexual Wellness Global Business Unit Jeyan Heper says she was proud of the company to deliver such an innovative and safe product.

"As a global leader in protection solutions, Ansell's mission is to provide innovative solutions for safety, well-being and peace of mind," says Heper.

"By combining a premium latex condom with Starpharma's patented antiviral VitaGel technology, Ansell is proud to introduce this first-of-its-kind condom to Canadian consumers.

"We pride ourselves on being highly innovative and the LifeStyles Dual Protect condom is a great example of a new and ground-breaking sexual-health product developed and commercialised by two Australian companies."

The company says the condom's antiviral properties have been proven in laboratory studies to inactivate up to 99.9 per cent of HIV, HSV and HPV.

This new break into the North American market comes after statements made by the company saying they will investigate how to shift more assembly and production work into the United States in light of President Donald Trump's protectionist agenda of import tariffs
