Korea emerging as key player

KOREA is Queensland’s third largest export market with merchandise exports in 2007-08 totalling $3.72 billion.

While traditional exports from the resource sector account for more than half of Queensland’s exports to Korea, it is emerging as a strong export partner across a broad spectrum of industries, from food to clean technologies and education.

Potential also exists for Queensland companies in Korea’s growing marine sector. A number of nationwide marina development projects are in the planning stages, which offers business opportunities in marina design, recreational boat and motor cruiser, parts and components sales, yacht academy training and management. This is an area Trade Queensland is focusing on to maximise opportunities for the Queensland marine industry.

Trade Queensland is also targeting other key export growth areas such as creative industries, education and training, equine services, processed and functional foods and sport business, including infrastructure.
