Fair work act seminars

THE Federal Government’s Fair Work Act became law on July 1 and is the second major overhaul to workplace relations in Australia.

To help business owners understand the new laws the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland is running state wide seminars outlining the most important changes to workplace relations.

The enterprise agreements seminars will assist business owners in transitioning, understanding and planning for the changes to enterprise agreements brought about by the new Act.

It will cover key aspects of enterprise agreements including the contents of enterprise agreements bargaining representatives, the agreement approval process, variations and terminations of agreements and transitional provisions.

The seminars are being held at Southport on November 10 and Broadbeach on November 19.

The Fair Work Act 2009 has also significantly changed unfair dismissal laws for Australian SME’s.

It is essential that employers are well informed of their rights and responsibilities under these new laws.

The new laws have established a procedure for dealing with unfair claims and provide a remedy if a dismissal is found to be unfair.

The free two-hour seminar covers key aspects of unfair dismissal and is being held at Southport on December 10 and Broadbeach on December 17.
