EnviroIndustry assists with EPA grant

ECO business initiative EnviroIndustry has teamed up with Connecting Southern Gold Coast (CSGC) to help 20 small businesses create better sustainable business practices.

It follows a $10,000 grant from the Queensland Government’s Climate Smart Business Cluster program which was matched in funding by CSGC.

EnviroIndustry was launched in 2008 to represent local companies that provide environmentally-sustainable products and services.

EnviroIndustry Gold Coast president Darren Harrison, says 20 cluster businesses in the Currumbin Waters industrial precinct will be selected to participate in the program.

“EnviroIndustry will provide recommendations on how they can become more cost-effective and eco-efficient in terms of energy usage and implementing sustainable practices,” he says.

“We have targeted the Currumbin Waters industrial area and the response has been good already.”

Data such as energy, water and waste bills will be collated to form a baseline with targets set over the coming months.

CSGC general manager Jim Wilson, is pushing for greater climate change awareness in the southern business community.

“This is great for the southern Gold Coast region and business owners will be able to assess costs of operation, water waste and power usage,” he says.

CSGC is a Gold Coast City Council initiative that was set up to promote and encourage industry, tourism and environmental sustainability from Currumbin Waters to Coolangatta.

Its key focus is the development of partnerships with organisers of new and existing events and ventures in the southern Gold Coast region, including the annual Wintersun event.

The organisation has recently come under fire from council finance boss Eddy Sarroff for not disclosing expenditure.
