IT'S BEEN more than 100 years since the first International Women's Day, and this year the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) will set the stage to ask just how far the cause has come.
Celebrating 20 years of supporting the global initiative, AIM will host its annual International Women's Day Great Debate series on the 8th of March, with six debaters set to tackle the provocative topic 'Australia in 2017 is still a man's world.'
Two hand-picked teams will go head to head in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, with special guests Erin Molan (The Footy Show), Gretel Killeen (The Project) and Jane Caro (The Gruen Transfer) overseeing each debate.
AIM Chief Executive David Pich says the organisation is honoured to host the popular debate series once again, which promises to inspire guests and provide valuable networking opportunities in addition to serving up a day of good food and laughter.
"At AIM, we are proud of our history in advocating for increased diversity in the Australian workplace and have supported the global International Women's Day initiative since 1997, as part of our Diversity Matters portfolio," says Pich.
"The AIM International Women's Day Great Debates have become institutions in their respective states and I'm sure this year's topic will prove to be a popular point of discussion, as we have made progress as a country over the last few decades, but reports still show we have some way to go before we realise true equality in the workplace."
Pich refers to AIM's 2016 Gender Pay Gap report, which found that gender pay bias still continues to exist within Australia.
On average, male staff are paid 8.2 per cent more than female counterparts who share the same role, with the widest pay gaps existing in leadership roles such as senior executives and administration.
The AIM 2017 International Women's Day Great Debate series will be held simultaneously on Wednesday 8th March 2017 at the Brisbane Convention Centre in Brisbane, RACV City Club in Melbourne, and Doltone House - Hyde Park in Sydney.
