AND THE AWARD GOES TO...

CARTER Newell Lawyers has won the 2015 Queensland Law Society Equity and Diversity Awards - Large Legal Practice Award.

The award recognises firms that embrace the changing nature of the legal profession by promoting positive firm culture through policies addressing diversity, equity, equal opportunity and flexible work practices.

Carter Newell says for many years the company has worked to be at the forefront of these issues since launching a program in 1999 which enabled the firm to employ and support members of staff with disabilities.

Since then the firm has introduced employment and operational policies and adopted equity initiatives to ensure the firm provides a challenging, flexible and balanced work environment founded on the firm's values.

Senior Partner Paul Hopkins (pictured) says it is initiatives such as the Disability Program, the support of flexible work arrangements, ongoing and active focus on gender diversity and commitment to employee wellbeing which has shaped its culture to be one of respect, support and empathy.

"We are delighted to accept this award which reaffirms the firm's strong culture and our on-going commitment to equity and diversity," says Hopkins.
