THE WESTIN HEADS TO RIVER CITY

STARWOOD'S Westin hotel brand will make its debut in Queensland, with The Westin Brisbane set to open its doors in 2018.

The international accommodation provider signed an agreement with Mary 111 Pty Ltd to launch the hotel as part of a mixed-use development. Mary Lane will feature a mix of retailers, restaurants and residences in the heart of the CBD.

Mary 111 director Sam Chong says the firm looks forward to working with Starwood on the project.

"Our vision is to create a legacy five-star hotel in the city of Brisbane that focuses on putting guests' well-being first and we're very confident the outstanding reputation of the Westin brand will appeal to the growing number of visitors to the city," Chong says.

The Westin Brisbane will comprise of 286 guest rooms, as well as a fitness studio, resort-style pool with swim-up bar and spa.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Pacific vice president Sean Hunt says the move marks the brand's expansion across Australia's four largest cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.

"With a presence in Australia for more than 15 years, Westin has developed a loyal following thanks to its differentiated positioning around wellness, and we look forward to the brand's continued expansion in the Pacific region," Hunt says.

The hotel will boast more than 667sqm of event and meeting space, 24-hour business centre and a range of dining options.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk says the announcement of another luxury hotel offering for the city reflects growing international recognition as a tourist destination.

"Visitors to Brisbane continue to grow, with one million international visits recorded for the first time last year, resulting in a record expenditure of $1.8 billion," Quirk says.

"With the nearby Queens Wharf project expected to boost tourist numbers further, this Westin Hotel will be a great addition to our city."

The Westin Brisbane joins Starwood's portfolio of 18 hotels in the Pacific, with seven properties under development including W Brisbane, Four Points Melbourne Docklands and The Westin Perth.
