AURIZON STAFF GET ON BOARD WITH NEW CONTRACT

AURIZON Holdings Limited's (ASX:AZJ) lengthy union stoush has drawn to a close, after more than 75 per cent of employees voted in favour of a new enterprise agreement.

There were 946 votes accepting the freight operator's Queensland Train Crew and Transport Operations proposal and 310 votes against.

The successful third and final ballot marks the culmination of more than two years of enterprise bargaining with unions.

The Queensland Construction and Maintenance Enterprise Agreement and the Queensland Staff Enterprise Agreement were accepted earlier this year.

Subject to approval by the Fair Work Commission (FWC), the three agreements will cover 5000 Aurizon employees in Queensland.

The new contract allows the company to streamline operations and improve productivity, after removing no forced redundancies and free rail passes.

Instead of the legacy provisions, employees will receive a 4 per cent pay rise and greater rostering flexibility.

Aurizon executive vice president human resources John Stephens says employees will benefit with competitive pay rates and modern employment conditions.

"The support of modern agreements by our employees is an important milestone for the future of Aurizon," Stephens says.

"This is the catalyst for significant productivity enhancements and workplace flexibility in order to deliver for our customers and sustain and grow our business."

The Train Crew and Transport Operations agreement will be lodged with FWC, and is expected to take effect seven days after approval.

Each of the new agreements will operate for three years.
