NEWCREST RATED BEST BY QUEENSLAND EMPLOYEES

QUEENSLANDERS have voted a Victorian company as the most attractive employer in the annual Randstad Award.

Newcrest Mining was chosen as the top company to work for the second year in a row, edging out global heavyweight Nestle and Brisbane-based Virgin Australia.

The gold miner claimed 53 per cent of the vote out of the 2045 workers surveyed.

Randstad market analyst Steve Shepherd (pictured) says it is a fantastic achievement for the company and cements its position as one of the country's top employers.

"It shows employers, if they invest in developing a great culture, a great business and a great workplace, will be recognised not just by employees, but the wider community," Shepherd says.

"All businesses, whether large or small, have characteristics and qualities which form the basis of their image, brand and reputation.

"To be as appealing as possible to potential employees, organisations need to promote these defining characteristics through every aspect of their marketing, communication, HR and employer branding strategies, something Newcrest Mining has done very well."

Newcrest Mining was recognised for providing excellent salary and employee benefits, good training and flexible working arrangements.

The mining and natural resources sector was voted as the most attractive sector to work for in Queensland, followed by aviation and fast-moving consumer goods.

The sector appealed to survey participants because of salary and employee benefits, strong management and career progression opportunities.

Shepherd says employer branding research is a valuable tool for businesses to attract and retain talented employees in the state.

"The war for talent is on a steep incline," he says.

"Understanding what makes public and private-sector organisations and various industries unique and attractive to potential employees is crucial.

"Only then can you promote these attributes and elements effectively to ensure your organisation remains attractive, successfully retaining talented individuals both today and in the future."

Newcrest Mining has placed in the top three attractive employers in the Queensland Randstad Award for four years running.
