Uni of Sydney workshops Brisbane

UNIVERSITY of Sydney’s Workplace Research Centre is bringing its successful Climate Change at Work conference to Brisbane amid claims that Queensland businesses will fall behind on addressing climate change.

Controversial Australian economist and Federal Government ‘green paper’ author Ross Garnaut this year stated that Australia will fall behind other developed countries in climate change policy and Queensland will be the state most affected.

The Climate Change at Work conference will explore these issues and present the latest insights into sustainable development in the workplace from key thought leaders from Australia and overseas.

The conference aims to promote sustainable development holistically in the workplace and will have a number of presentations and case studies from Federal and State Government, key industry and union representatives and sustainability practitioners and consultants.

Director of the Workplace Research Centre John Buchanan, says sustainable development in the workplace is something that needs to be addressed by management across the company and the HR function has to be one of the driving forces behind it.

Buchanan says important HR management issues such as how sustainability practices will affect workplace relations, skill demands and jobs, to operational issues such as achieving carbon reduction in the workplace will all be explored in the conference.

Another key management issue to be presented is how to promote, communicate and engage employees in sustainable development.
