Springwood the CBD of Logan

NOV 2009

SPRINGWOOD is set to be developed as Logan City’s ‘premier commercial centre’, following the council’s approval of the Greater Springwood Master Plan (GSMP).

Logan City councillor John Grant says the plan sets the scene for planning parts of six suburbs encompassing 480ha for the next 20 years, including around $300 million worth of infrastructure.

“It sets the course for significant growth in jobs, office space, commercial buildings, and retail space as well a significant private enterprise investment,” says Grant.

The plan includes a core Springwood business precinct and reaches as far north as Underwood and Rochedale, west to Woodridge and Slacks Creek, and south to Daisy Hill.

“The heart of the Springwood business precinct will be rejuvenated and the provision of more areas for alfresco dining will give the area a much-needed facelift,” says Grant.

“Two new town squares, complete with cinemas and restaurants, are planned while improved pedestrian connectivity and access to services have not been forgotten.”

The plan drafted by GH & D held public consultation with more than 80 residents in June and attracted more than 40 submissions.

Grant points to a vital component of the GSMP as the provision for major upgrades for roads, major allowances for low rise buildings and improvements for transport infrastructure.

‘’Council will need to spend on average $3.7 million annually for the next 20 years in order to implement key elements of the plan,” he says.

“The costs of that infrastructure will be levied by the infrastructure charges."
