AVIATION INDUSTRY SET TO SOAR WITH NEW FACILITY

CONSTRUCTION has commenced on a $10 million Aviation Australia training facility at Brisbane Airport.

The project is expected to generate 60 construction jobs and facilitate training for an extra 500 students on completion.

The complex is already considered to be the largest training and administration centre of its kind in the southern hemisphere, forming an integral part of the industry.

There are more than 900 aviation companies in Queensland that contribute $6 billion annually to the state's economy and employ 16,500 people.

Premier Annastacia Palasczuk says she is committed to growing the sector, with a $10 million boost to the Attracting Aviation Fund.

"This will take Aviation Australia to the next level and cement Brisbane Airport and Queensland as a global hub for aviation," Palasczuk says.

"This new facility, with capacity for 500 more students, sets a clear course for future growth.

"It is a great show of confidence in the sector and a big boost for jobs in Queensland.

"Now with this new facility, developed by Brisbane Airport Corporation, we can further build our growing international reputation and create more job opportunities for Queenslanders."

Aviation Australia was established in 2001 to position the state as a leader in the aviation and aerospace industry in the Asia-Pacific region.

It provides basic aircraft maintenance engineer and flight attendant training for airlines, defence and governments around Australia and internationally.

The facility is expected to open in March 2016.
