US POWERHOUSE EXPANDS QUEENSLAND OPERATIONS

US CORPORATE giant General Electric (GE) has expanded its mining operations into Queensland.

The company’s newly launched GE Mining Global will be based in Brisbane to help mines address critical power, water and productivity issues, Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney announced this afternoon.

Seeney says the investment is a “vote of confidence” in the Queensland economy.

“The company’s decision to invest in Queensland further validates Brisbane’s place as a global hub for mining and engineering services,” says Seeney.

“They will be taking advantage of the world class skills, research and manufacturing Queensland has to offer.”

The establishment of the new venture follows GE’s recent mining acquisitions of Queensland manufacturer Industrea Ltd and US-based Fairchild International.

GE holds existing operations in Queensland’s healthcare, aviation and energy industries.
