TOP CHEF CRACKS A COLD ONE FOR THE REEF

AN award-winning Brisbane chef has hopped on board as ambassador of social enterprise The Good Beer Co.

Ryan Squires (pictured right), owner of the city's only three-hatted restaurant Esquire, will champion the company's first brew that gives back, Great Barrier Beer.

At least 50 per cent of the beer's profits are donated to the Australian Marine Conservation Society to protect the Great Barrier Reef for future generations.

Squires says the cause is close to his heart, making it an easy decision to team up with The Good Beer Co.

"I'm very proud to have Great Barrier Beer on the menu at Esquire," he says.

"I think the Great Barrier Beer is going to be really successful because it gives Australians a really easy way to get behind an important local cause while doing something they love - enjoying a quality local beer.

"That's why I will be calling on restaurants, bars, hotels, pubs, bottle shops, hospitality venues and companies in Brisbane and across Queensland and Australia to join me in serving and supporting this revolutionary beer."

The Good Beer Co. was launched in Brisbane last November to sell craft beer and raise funds for charity partners.

The first batch of Great Barrier Beer was crowdfunded and brewed earlier this year by Bargara Brewing Company in Bundaberg. More than 15,000 bottles and 60 kegs have been sold across Queensland since.

The Good Beer Co. founder James Grugeon (pictured left) says the organisation was honoured to secure Esquire as a partner.

"We knew that Great Barrier Beer was good, but when Ryan put it on the menu at Esquire it gave us a confidence boost," Grugeon says.

"With Ryan's support it's our aim to get our good beer that gives back stocked across Australia. We want to give Aussie good beer drinkers the chance to enjoy a cold one for the reef and a range of other good beers that give back too."

Queensland Minister for the Environment and the Great Barrier Reef Dr Steven Miles MP will launch Squires as ambassador at 'Lunch for the Great Barrier Reef' at Esquire on July 8.

Events have also been planned in Cairns and Port Douglas, following successful launches in Airlie Beach and Townsville.
