SPRINGBORG WOOS KAP WITH REGIONAL INSURANCE CORPORATION

LIBERAL-NATIONAL leader Lawrence Springborg has promised to establish a Queensland Regional Finance and Insurance Corporation to win the support of Katter's Australian Party (KAP).

KAP state leader Rob Katter says the corporation will be "an instrument to fit in to iron out anomalies in the market."

"There's hardly a business property owner that hasn't been adversely affected by insurance markets."

He says Springborg agrees with 21 points from the KAP platform, and has learnt from the swing against the LNP at last month's election.

"They had a budget that was obsessed with fiscal balance," says Katter.

"They had fiscal policy but not industry policy."

Springborg has sent a 45-point blueprint to Katter and fellow KAP member Shane Knuth in which he promises to "assist rural farming and other small business enterprises that are finding it difficult to maintain viability."

The LNP retains a small chance of forming government in Queensland, even if all seats are declared, as the seat of Ferny Grove could potentially go to a by-election.

Springborg has promised to ensure a portion of future natural gas tenements is reserved for domestic use, and also to increase the payroll tax threshold by $100,000 per year for the term of the next parliament.

Katter says increasing the tax threshold will "hit taxpayers in the short term" but in the long term will "grow the cake."

Knuth and Katter told the ABC they have not yet decided which major party to support, but at this point are more likely to back the LNP.
