NEW FLY-IN FLY-OUT CARRIER RECEIVES THE GREEN LIGHT

A START-UP aviation company has received the regulatory green light to provide fly-in fly-out services for Queensland mining workers.

JetGo Australia confirmed that it had secured Civil Aviation Safety Authority approval on May 3 with on-demand flights expected to start today.

Chief executive Jason Ryder promises the carrier will resolve airline schedule limitations that have prevented mining workers from travelling to and from airports without scheduled services already in place.

JetGo has operations in Sydney, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Rockhampton. It plans to service Weipa, Cloncurry, Mount Isa, Groote Eylandt and the Bowen Basin.

The company is convinced its fleet of 36-seater Embraer aircraft will transport miners at nearly twice the speed of traditional turbo-prop aircraft, allowing resources companies to receive staff from greater distances.

Ryder claims JetGo flights between Brisbane and Cairns (1700 km) will take the same time conventional Brisbane services require for shorter trips to Emerald (878 km).
