JETSTAR TO OPEN NEW TRIPS ACROSS THE TASMAN

JETSTAR has announced it will be opening two brand new direct service routes between the Gold Coast and New Zealand later this year.

The airline will run services three times a week between Coolangatta, Wellington and world famous skiing destination Queenstown.

Gold Coast Airport chief operating officer David Collins says the additional services will equate to more than 112,000 outgoing and incoming seats per year, and the new routes will strengthen tourism presence in all three destinations.

“From an outbound perspective, we are confident South-East Queensland and Northern New South Wales locals will embrace the opportunity to swap the sand for the snow and experience all that Queenstown and Wellington have to offer,” says Collins.

“Jetstar already operates Auckland and Christchurch services from Gold Coast Airport, and it is on the back of the success of these services that Jetstar have announced the Queenstown and Wellington services.”

Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter supports the new travel routes and says now is an excellent time to be capitalising on the tourism relationship between our pacific neighbours.

“There has been a nine per cent rise in visitors from New Zealand to the Gold Coast over the past 12 months, which is a really positive indicator from our second largest source of international visitor arrivals,” says Winter.

“Gold Coast Tourism has recently increased our promotional presence in New Zealand and this new commitment by Jetstar to expand their trans-Tasman services further boosts our forecasts for this very important visitor market.”

Services to Wellington and Queenstown will commence on December 12 and 13 respectively.
