GOOD AFTERNOON VIETNAM

QUEENSLAND’S $245 million export industry to Vietnam has received a boost today, with Minister for Trade Stephen Robertson appointing a representative on the ground in Ho Chi Minh City.

In-market specialist Ho Thi Ngoc Ha is the state’s first business development manager for Vietnam and will be based in Austrade’s office.

Robertson says Ha will help further opportunities for exporters, which currently include products such as cereals, metalliferous ores and metal scraps.

“Ms Ha will lead the State's export and investment attraction activities in Vietnam, and her background in banking, finance and economics will be invaluable in driving Queensland's activities in this important region,” he says.

“Vietnam's economy is currently experiencing a time of significant growth, presenting opportunities across a range of sectors.

“A number of Queensland exporters are already pursuing business opportunities in Vietnam and having an in-market based Business Development Manager will help them even more.”

The State Government continues its push to assist exporters following the appointment of an on-the-ground trade representative in Chile to boost exports to Latin America. Treasurer Andrew Fraser has also indicated plans for a Brazilian-based representative.
