DAISO CHALLENGES RETAIL SLUMP

Written on the 8 April 2014

DAISO CHALLENGES RETAIL SLUMP JAPANESE bargain retailer Daiso continues to roll out rapid expansion plans, with the opening of a new store in Indooroopilly Shopping Centre on Thursday.

It will be the fourth store to open in Queensland in less than a year, with shoppers taking advantage of items sold at the uniform price of $2.80.

Daiso Australia CEO Kit Cheong says the brand is transforming shopper’s perceptions that low price equates to poor quality.

“Our customers love the eclectic product range, easy-to-navigate layout and of course the fact that every item is just $2.80.

“A colourful lifestyle shouldn’t be expensive, we make great household items without prohibitive price tags,” she says.

The company will continue to build its Australian market, with 16 stores opening since last April in Sydney and Melbourne as well.

Cheong says the outlet’s constantly revolving range of stationery, cosmetics, food, toys and home-wares contributed to the success of the chain.

“We also know that our customers value the shopping experience, our stores are fun, fresh and bright.

“We also offer products that are unique to Daiso and reflect Japan’s out-of-the box thinking.”

Up to 20 new stores open in Japan every month, with 3,400 stores trading in 25 countries internationally.
