AIRASIA LAUNCHES NEW TRANS-TASMAN FLIGHTS

GOLD Coasters are set to benefit from direct flights to New Zealand, following the announcement of new AirAsia X services from the Gold Coast to Auckland.

The first flight is set to jet off on 22 March 2016, with flights departing Gold Coast at 9.05am each day for Auckland arriving at 3.30pm local time.  To celebrate the new services, AirAsia X is offering flights from $119 one-way.

AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail says he is excited to be bringing added competition to the popular route across the Tasman.

"The Gold Coast was AirAsia X's inaugural route from Malaysia and has been well supported by our Australian and international guests," he says.

"We're also delighted to offer New Zealand as an exciting destination for travellers looking to enjoy the many unique experiences which New Zealand offers."

An Airbus A330-300 aircraft will operate the route with a seating capacity of 377. The configuration will be AirAsia X's standard configuration of 365 economy seats and 12 Premium flatbed seats.

Gold Coast Airport chief operating officer Marion Charlton says it is very exciting to be offering the new services.

"The Gold Coast community is familiar with AirAsia X and the variety of destinations they offer by flying via Kuala Lumpur, as such, we are confident this route will perform strongly both from an inbound and outbound perspective," she says.

"The commencement of this daily service is a demonstration of AirAsia X's commitment to the South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales regions."
