$3M UPGRADE FOR LENNOX HOTEL

THE sleepy surfing hamlet of Lennox Head is angling for a slice of Byron Bay’s lucrative conference and events market following a $3 million upgrade of its historic pub.

Work is nearing completion on the latest $2 million stage two renovation of the Lennox Head Hotel to tap the conference and wedding market in one of the north coast’s most spectacular beachside destinations.

The historic hotel recently completed the first stage of its redevelopment which included a refurbishment of the public bar. Stage 2 is underway and will include a redevelopment of the second floor facilities tailored to business functions and wedding receptions.

Its owners say the creation of conference facilities to cater for in excess of 200 guests will allow Lennox Head to compete with more traditional conference destinations such as Byron Bay and the Gold Coast.

The refurbishments, which include new conference rooms, restaurant and catering facilities and bars, follow recent upgrades to the Pacific Highway and the introduction of direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne.

“Recent improved access to Lennox Head through direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne and the upgrade of the Pacific Highway north to Brisbane and the Gold Coast has really exposed us like never before,” says hotel spokesperson Troy Lister (pictured).

“We are investing as a result of increased enquiries from those looking for an alternative experience to the more traditional destinations.”

Lister says the decision to target the conference and wedding market comes on the back of ongoing enquiry from those looking for a unique experience away from the more traditional locations of Byron Bay and the Gold Coast.

He says its unique seaside charm now had the amenities to cater to a more sophisticated market.

“Lennox is really being unearthed and we are looking to meet the new demand by creating a sophisticated environment that can cater for up to 200 people – effectively creating infrastructure that has not been available before,” says Lister.

“This will allow us to compete with other conference market destinations on the North Coast and even provide a more laid back alternative to the Gold Coast.

“We have also seen Lennox become a popular wedding spot with many couples heading to Lennox Head to say their vows and we want to cater to this market. Bookings are already quite strong for 2012.”

Lennox Head has become more accessible following motorway upgrades including the dual lane Pacific Highway from Tweed to Brunswick Heads, the Tugun Bypass and the ongoing $640 million Ballina Bypass upgrade which will cut further travel times planned for completion in 2012.
